By UCAS's old subject scheme, a course code starting A1 means pre-clinical medicine, in the medicine and dentistry area (A). 123 courses at 54 UK universities use one for 2027 entry: most ask for between 48 and 144 UCAS points; 33 courses quote A-level grades instead, most often AAA. Another 44 joint honours courses carry A1 as their second subject.
